Role overview
We are recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join a respected main contractor’s pre-construction team in Oranmore, County Galway. The business has an established track record of delivering quality work across residential, commercial, healthcare and education projects across the West of Ireland. With ongoing growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, this position offers the chance to contribute directly to winning and shaping a wide range of construction projects.
In this role, you will report to the Commercial Director and take ownership of accurate, competitive cost planning and tender preparation for varied construction schemes.

What you will do
- Examine tender packs, drawings, specifications and employer requirements in detail.
- Build thorough cost estimates and bills of quantities for residential and commercial works.
- Collect and assess pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Carry out quantity take-offs and review project risks as well as potential opportunities.
- Compile complete tender submissions to demanding deadlines.
- Work closely with design, commercial and site operations teams throughout the tender cycle.
- Take part in pre-tender and post-tender meetings with clients and other stakeholders when needed.
- Keep cost records and pricing data current and well organised.
- Support value engineering work aimed at finding cost-efficient solutions.
- Assist with project handover discussions once contracts are secured.
- Track market movement, material pricing and subcontractor rates to maintain competitiveness.
What we are looking for
- Previous experience preparing prices for residential, commercial or relevant civil engineering projects.
- Good knowledge of construction methods, technical specifications and procurement practices.
- Confidence in reading drawings and tender documents accurately.
- Strong numerical ability, commercial awareness and analytical thinking.
- Solid skills in Microsoft Excel and estimating tools/software.
- Clear communication and strong stakeholder coordination abilities.
- Ability to handle several tenders at once while meeting tight timelines.
- A relevant third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Construction Management or a similar subject.
