Role overview
Join the Front-End Innovation team as a Food Technologist and help turn emerging food trends, consumer understanding, and bold ideas into market-ready concepts for breakfast and snack products. This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity to work at the point where food science, culinary creativity, and design thinking meet.
You will collaborate with colleagues across functions to shape early-stage innovations into concepts that are appealing, nutritious, and commercially feasible.
Team and working setup
You will report to the R&D Leader for Front-End Innovation and be part of a small team of three. The role is based across the Trafford Park pilot plant and the Media City office, following a hybrid working pattern. Occasional travel within the UK and internationally is also required to support work with other sites and external partners.
What you will do
- Create and prototype new food concepts that align with consumer appeal, brand direction, nutritional goals, and technical feasibility.
- Drive early concept development from idea generation through rapid prototyping and sensory assessment.
- Convert consumer insights, market trends, and future-facing research into strong product opportunities.
- Partner with marketing, insights, and nutrition colleagues to build integrated innovation concepts.
- Use design-thinking methods to experiment with new formats, textures, and food experiences.
- Track emerging ingredients, technologies, and food cultures to fuel innovation ideas.
- Prepare clear visual materials and presentations to communicate concepts through mock-ups and storytelling.
What we are looking for
- Solid technical grounding in food development, supported by practical industry experience.
- Background in design-led innovation or early-stage R&D.
- Strong ability to solve problems creatively and build prototypes.
- Genuine interest in food and nutrition, along with curiosity and imagination.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
