Information Technology Manager

Role overview

A national organisation in Cork is seeking a seasoned IT Manager for a permanent position. The role is based in Cork with a hybrid working setup.

Team leadership and service delivery

You will guide ICT support employees and contractors, ensuring strong coverage across first-, second- and third-line technical support. The role also involves acting as the senior escalation contact for complex hardware and software incidents, coordinating outside suppliers, and managing the ICT on-call rota.

Infrastructure and systems management

This position covers the full lifecycle of servers, desktops and professional AV technology. You will oversee virtual server environments built on Hyper-V and Microsoft operating systems, while also maintaining a secure cloud-based Microsoft 365 environment with a focus on identity, device and threat controls.

Projects and strategic planning

You will be responsible for shaping, managing and delivering major ICT initiatives from initial concept through to completion. The role requires reviewing existing architecture, assessing new technologies and applying disciplined project methods to deliver systems on time and within budget.

Business continuity and security governance

Ownership of information security, disaster recovery and business continuity planning is central to the role. You will put in place effective backup and recovery measures, maintain electronic audit trails and promote a strong culture of quality and risk control across all information systems.

Compliance, auditing and documentation

The position includes developing ICT audit processes and policies aligned with hospital risk frameworks. You will also maintain robust documentation standards and ensure compliance with national healthcare ICT requirements and GDPR data protection rules.

Training and professional development

You will support the induction and upskilling of new team members, helping maintain high performance and keeping the department aligned with current ICT best practices.

Required profile

The organisation is looking for someone with a Level 8 qualification or higher from QQI in Information and Communication Technology, or a related discipline. Equivalent high-level industry experience may also be considered.

A minimum of five years in a comparable IT or ICT position is required, together with experience supervising technical staff, working with external vendors or leading technical project teams. Prior exposure to healthcare, clinical training or another highly regulated setting is important, along with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage diplomatically with a range of stakeholders.

Technical capabilities

The role calls for hands-on experience supporting and deploying end-user platforms across Windows 10/11, macOS, iOS, Linux and Android using unified endpoint management tools.

You should have strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, including AD DS and file/print services, as well as Hyper-V virtualization. Experience with Linux distributions or Microsoft SQL Server would be beneficial.

Deep familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy and Microsoft Entra ID is needed, along with practical experience managing Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure environments. This includes hybrid identity, AD/Entra Connect, Conditional Access and Intune for device and application management.

A solid understanding of networking and security is also required, covering DNS, DHCP, VLANs, WAN/LAN, firewalls, network segmentation, VPNs, endpoint protection and backup platforms such as Veeam.

Desirable experience

Additional strengths include knowledge of enterprise networking products such as Aruba switching and routing, Fortinet security tools or Aruba ClearPass NAC. Experience with integrated professional AV systems such as Extron, Crestron and Barco, as well as media streaming or IPTV platforms, would be an advantage.

Familiarity with ITIL-based service management and Irish healthcare ICT standards or HSE governance models is also desirable. Industry certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified (Endpoint Administrator or Administrator Expert), CCNA or Aruba Campus Access Fundamentals would be a bonus.
