About the company
Gray Puksand is an Australian architecture and integrated design practice with more than 150 highly engaged design professionals working from studios in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Canberra.
The practice aims to shape an inspiring future through thoughtful, authentic, and well-resolved projects that enhance how people work, learn, and live.
Its team combines individual creativity with a national, collaborative approach, using a consistent design process to deliver strong outcomes for clients and end users.
About the role
This is an opportunity for an ambitious Interior Designer who has built a solid professional foundation and is ready for the next stage of their career. The role suits someone who wants to contribute to award-winning projects while developing further within a growing national interior design team.
Projects are delivered both independently and collaboratively, and the work involves end-to-end project delivery across concept, documentation, and construction phases. Revit is central to the role, and experience across Workspace, Health and Science, Commercial, and Education projects will be viewed favourably.
The role also involves communicating design intent through multiple tools and presentation formats such as Revit, Enscape, InDesign, Photoshop, SketchUp, and newer technologies including VR.
The Canberra studio is located in the CBD, close to commercial and hospitality amenities, civic spaces, parklands, and public transport. The local team is described as close-knit, welcoming, and energetic.
Key duties
- Support projects through all stages, including concept design, space planning, design development, documentation, site-based construction support, and contract administration.
- Take part in client briefings, workshops, and collaborative design development sessions.
- Produce interior design documentation and deliverables in Revit.
- Prepare presentations and communicate concepts using tools such as Revit, Enscape, InDesign, Photoshop, SketchUp, VR, and similar platforms.
- Work effectively with both small groups and larger project teams.
About you
You should be genuinely passionate about design, enjoy collaborative work, and be driven by outcomes. The ideal candidate will already have proven creative ability and a strong work ethic, and will now be looking to take on larger and more complex projects.
This position calls for a hands-on professional who can take initiative, grow into more leadership and client-facing responsibilities, and communicate confidently with clients, consultants, and stakeholders under the support of senior designers.
Because this is a Revit-led environment, strong Revit capability and the ability to produce drawings suitable for design development are essential.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 5 years of experience in commercial interior design practice or a similar environment.
- Exposure to Workspace, Commercial, Healthcare, or Education projects is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Revit.
- Ability to contribute across all project phases, from concept through to construction management and contract administration.
- Good understanding of BCA requirements, building regulations, and relevant specifications.
- Strong presentation and rendering capability; experience with SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop, Enscape, Rhino, and Office Suite is an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to engaging team members, consultants, and clients.
- Demonstrated collaborative mindset and initiative in project work.
- Strong personal accountability and pride in delivering quality work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Capacity to manage more than one project at a time when needed.
What the employer offers
- A chance to progress your career with support from experienced mentors.
- Exposure to varied and challenging projects across multiple industries.
- A positive, engaged, respectful, and fun team culture.
- Supportive and empowering leadership.
- Opportunity to grow within an expanding national firm.
- Projects that encourage innovative and unconventional thinking.
