Role Overview

The Junior Logistics Analyst will support the transportation function with daily execution, data handling, and reporting related to rail logistics for processing plants, terminals, and trading desks. The role is intended to build practical knowledge in logistics, rail operations, and commercial processes while contributing to reliable information flow, accurate records, and smooth operational execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Help manage daily transportation operations by tracking railcars, updating shipment progress, and coordinating with internal teams that support plants, terminals, and trading activity.
• Keep transportation records accurate by maintaining shipment details, pricing data, billing information, and performance metrics used by the team.
• Support reporting and analysis work, including KPI monitoring, performance summaries, and one-off analysis that improves visibility and helps guide decisions.
• Provide general operational support that helps the transportation team work efficiently, follow consistent processes, and maintain clear communication across stakeholders.
• Monitor railcar movements through track-and-trace tools, note exceptions, and escalate issues when required.
• Assist with railcar billing and invoice review by checking charges against contracts, rate schedules, and shipment information.
• Help maintain rail rate databases and tariff files so pricing information remains current and reliable.
• Prepare and update transportation performance reports covering service metrics, dwell time, cycle time, and exception monitoring.
• Support the tracking of demurrage and accessorial charges, including documentation, reporting, and issue resolution.
• Organize shipment documentation and record keeping, including billing records, customs-related information, and internal reporting files.
• Assist with transportation system updates, data cleanup, and improvements to spreadsheets, dashboards, and reporting tools.
• Contribute to special assignments and process improvement initiatives that strengthen efficiency, data quality, and operational discipline.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline such as Supply Chain or Logistics is required.
• 0 to 3 years of experience in data analysis, operations, or a related field is required.
• Strong ability to analyze and manage data, with accuracy in entering, maintaining, and interpreting transportation information, rate tables, and KPI reports using Excel and logistics systems.
• Careful attention to detail and financial discipline, especially when reviewing freight invoices and monitoring extra charges such as demurrage.
• Good communication and teamwork skills for working with senior analysts, traders, plant operations, rail carriers, and accounting partners.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt in a changing operational setting with service disruptions, shifting shipment plans, and urgent requests.
• Curiosity and quick learning ability to build knowledge of rail networks, systems, and internal processes.
