About the employer

TBH is a long-established, privately owned advisory consultancy that works across Australia and overseas, helping clients solve difficult, high-stakes problems and improve outcomes for communities. Since 1965, the business has supported more than 8,000 major projects across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East, building deep expertise in project management for complex public and private sector work.

The company is growing across Australia and internationally while maintaining a collaborative, connected team culture. Its long-term strategy is focused on the years ahead to ensure the business continues to serve clients effectively and remain positioned for the future.

About the opportunity

An opening is available in Canberra for a Junior Project Planner (Consultant). The position is suited to someone with a solid base in planning and scheduling, plus interest or exposure to risk, claims, or cost management. It offers the chance to work on varied, technically challenging assignments and build capability in planning, scheduling, project delivery, and project controls alongside experienced consultants and project managers.

You will contribute to high-quality delivery on client work, support schedule analysis and other project controls tasks, and interact with client stakeholders as your responsibilities expand. The role is designed for a person who enjoys problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous development, and who wants to build a long-term career in project planning, scheduling, and consultancy.

This position supports Australian Defence work, so it is only open to Australian citizens because security clearance is required.

You will assist with TBH’s planning and scheduling services across project, programme, and portfolio settings. The work spans strategic advisory support for investment and business case decisions, disputes and claims, variation assessment, cost control, estimating, benchmarking, commercial advisory, contract management, and planning and scheduling services across sectors such as energy, water, infrastructure, and international projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Help build and keep construction schedules current using drawings and project records.
  • Support progress updates and re-sequencing efforts to reduce or avoid schedule delays.
  • Check third-party schedules for critical path, logic, and scope integrity.
  • Assist with integrated master schedule development for linked programmes of work.
  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of cost-loaded and resource-loaded schedules.
  • Prepare scheduling documentation, including basis-of-schedule material and related outputs.
  • Support design programming, integrated baseline reviews, and shutdown planning tasks.
  • Assist project and service delivery leaders with execution-related activities as required.
  • Develop productive working relationships with internal colleagues and client contacts through clear, professional communication.
  • Review project information, analyse data, and present findings that help guide decisions.
  • Support preparation of client deliverables such as analyses, reports, and project outputs.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and project documents to inform planning work.
  • Carry out quantity take-offs and scope assessments where needed for planning and controls activities.

Requirements

  • A relevant bachelor’s qualification in Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a similar field.
  • About 1 to 2 years of post-graduate experience in site engineering, planning, or quantity surveying.
  • Exposure to project planning in construction, infrastructure, energy, or telecommunications.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and complete quantity take-offs.
  • Understanding of commercial contracting principles and construction methods is preferred.
  • NV1 security clearance, or a willingness to obtain it.
  • Contract administration experience is helpful, though not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
  • Competence with Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI, and Microsoft Office.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
  • Comfort working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Consultancy experience is preferred but not required.

What TBH offers

  • A competitive salary with bonus potential.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including the ability to adjust working patterns or work from anywhere for a fixed or indefinite period.
  • An inclusive workplace culture where people are respected, valued, and supported.
  • Parental leave of 16 weeks for primary carers and 3 weeks for secondary carers.
  • Career development support through on-the-job training, mentoring, in-house learning, and financial assistance for approved industry bodies and associations.
