Role overview

The Athens, GA facility is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic with expert-level mechanical aptitude. This is an immediate-hire, on-site position with a competitive hourly wage and additional incentive programs.

Compensation and pay progression

• Starting pay is $32.16 per hour.
• A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered.
• Pay may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
• Employees may qualify for annual wage increases and skill-based raises.
• Monthly bonuses may be available based on plant productivity.

Shift schedule

• The role follows 8-hour shifts.
• Shifts rotate weekly between first and second shift.
• First shift runs from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
• Second shift runs from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Selection requirement

All applicants for this maintenance role must clear a Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude test.

Key duties

• Follow plant safety rules and PPE requirements, including hairnets, earplugs, gloves, aprons, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and any other required protective gear.
• Examine faulty machinery, identify the cause of breakdowns, and use manuals, test tools, and hand or power tools to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
• Take equipment apart for repair or preventive servicing, then reassemble it after the work is complete; facility maintenance work may also be part of the job.
• Carry out routine preventive maintenance so production equipment and building systems continue to operate reliably.
• Refurbish and replace components such as bearings, gears, and special structural or functional parts; minor carpentry and basic facility repairs may also be needed.
• Perform oiling, lubrication, battery changes, compressor checks, power supply checks, and conveyor inspections while using repair manuals, blueprints, and parts catalogs as needed.
• Check part dimensions and clearances to make sure they meet factory specifications; assemble, install, or connect systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
• Carry out MIG/arc welding and cutting when required.
• Inspect belts, manual drives, and fluid levels, replace filters, and complete other maintenance tasks based on checklists.
• Adjust parts or control devices using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Keep the maintenance area clean and maintain tools and equipment used in repairs.
• Install, diagnose, and monitor production lines and press equipment, and repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools.
• Observe all workplace safety procedures at all times.

Qualifications and technical background

• 3 to 5 years of maintenance experience is required.
• Applicants must be able to pass the Ramsay assessment covering mechanical knowledge.
• Machining experience with equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, saws, and drills is a plus.
• Welding experience, especially TIG and stick welding, is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is important.
• Plumbing skills such as threading and soldering are needed.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, including gears, pulleys, chains, belts, shafts, gearboxes, water pumps, air compressors, and HVAC systems, is required or strongly preferred.
• Understanding of electrical systems such as AC and DC motors and drives, 480V three-phase systems, transformers, control power, and relays is needed.
• Knowledge of pneumatic systems, including valves, controls, pressure, flow, and cylinders, is required.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, including valves, controls, pressure, flow, and cylinders, is required.
• Experience with electronic systems, including controls, ladder logic, PLC programming, and C programming, is a plus.
• Strong attendance and work ethic are expected.
• The candidate should be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and stay self-motivated.
• The job requires standing for 8 hours per day.
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs is required.
• Protective equipment must be worn as needed.
