Role overview
Kruger Publication Papers, through Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited, is looking for a Maintenance Planner to join its Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador site. The organization is recognized for producing newsprint, maintaining Sustainable Forest Initiative certification, and operating with strong energy self-sufficiency through Deer Lake Power Generation, steam power, and steam recovery. The long-term goal is to become fully dependent on clean energy.
This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent and works in close partnership with maintenance and operations teams. The main focus is to build effective weekly and monthly work plans that support reliable plant performance.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, print, and distribute the weekly maintenance work schedule.
- Coordinate schedule requirements with the maintenance supervisor and production planning team.
- Confirm that all required parts are ready for the maintenance crew before work is scheduled.
- Work through planning conflicts with production stakeholders, including job priority, completion dates, and scope of work.
- Monitor maintenance backlog and identify work that is critical to operations.
- Develop, sustain, and continuously improve the maintenance program together with the maintenance team.
- Identify parts needed for predictive and preventive maintenance, and recommend stocking approaches that balance plant cost and reliability.
- Prepare the annual preventive maintenance workload review and adjust PM strategy based on findings.
- Close completed planned work orders with accurate details so records remain complete and traceable.
- Create standard work instructions for recurring maintenance tasks.
- Ensure equipment drawings are updated whenever modifications are made.
Qualifications and requirements
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical, or have relevant trade experience. The role calls for 2 to 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing setting; experience in pulp and paper would be considered an advantage.
Applicants should bring a positive attitude, a strong maintenance mindset, and the ability to communicate clearly with different teams. Good interpersonal and organizational skills are important, as is the ability to analyze issues and apply structured problem-solving methods. Experience using CMMS and other planning tools is required, and the candidate should work well as part of a team.
A Certificate of Conduct from a local police service or the RCMP must be provided before employment begins.
