About the Role

As a Personal Assistant, you will deliver administrative and legal support to a varied team of solicitors. Your day-to-day work will involve regular contact with lawyers, claims managers, medical advisors, witnesses, experts, courts, and tribunals, helping Avant Law provide a high standard of service to its members.

This opportunity suits someone who works well with others, takes initiative, pays close attention to detail, and is motivated to produce consistently strong work in a busy legal setting. The position is based in Sydney and runs for 12 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer administrative and legal assistance to a multidisciplinary solicitor team handling medical indemnity matters, particularly civil litigation work.
  • Draft and prepare legal materials such as briefs for counsel and experts, subpoenas, chronologies, court papers, and correspondence, while coordinating with witnesses, experts, courts, and tribunals.
  • Organise solicitor calendars, handle incoming and outgoing mail and communications, maintain filing systems, and respond to telephone enquiries.
  • Manage accounts payable invoices, monthly billing tasks, and settlement cheque requests.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with members, claims managers, medical advisers, and external legal contacts.

Requirements

  • At least one year of law degree study, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working as a legal secretary or paralegal.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research.
  • Typing speed of 45 words per minute or more.
  • Strong understanding of legal work and research methods.
  • Clear written and spoken communication skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level.
  • Strong accuracy, focus on detail, and effective time management.
