Role Description
This full-time, on-site position for a Soft Commodity Trader is based in the New York City Metropolitan Area. The successful candidate will be responsible for originating and executing trades in soft agricultural commodities, including the management of positions, pricing, and risk within designated markets. Daily responsibilities involve closely monitoring global commodity markets, analyzing supply and demand dynamics, and formulating trading strategies that align with the company's risk parameters. The role requires negotiating contracts with both suppliers and customers, collaborating with logistics and operations teams to ensure precise and timely execution, and nurturing robust, long-term commercial relationships. Additionally, the Soft Commodity Trader will work alongside finance and risk management teams to develop hedging strategies, report on performance, and identify emerging business opportunities.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong trading and commodity market expertise, with a demonstrated ability to execute and manage positions in soft or agricultural commodities. Essential financial and hedging capabilities are required, including a solid understanding of derivatives, risk management principles, and profit and loss drivers. Proven sales acumen and skills in building commercial relationships are crucial, along with the capacity to negotiate terms and cultivate new business. Excellent analytical and quantitative abilities are necessary, coupled with proficiency in Excel and market analysis tools; experience with trading platforms is advantageous. Strong communication and negotiation skills are vital, as is a collaborative approach to working with both internal and external stakeholders. A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Agriculture, or a related discipline is required. Prior experience in soft commodities, agricultural trading, or similar physical trading environments is highly preferred. The ability to work on-site in the New York City Metropolitan Area and manage a demanding, time-sensitive workload with sound judgment is essential.
