Quality Engineer

Job summary

The Quality Engineer is accountable for setting up, running, and continuously improving quality assurance and quality control practices so that products meet customer expectations, legal obligations, and internal standards. This role partners with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers to strengthen product quality and optimize manufacturing performance.

Key responsibilities

• Create, roll out, and maintain quality management systems, procedures, and related controls.
• Carry out inspections, audits, and tests to confirm compliance with required quality benchmarks.
• Review quality metrics and data to spot patterns, recurring defects, and improvement opportunities.
• Handle customer complaints and non-conformance cases using structured root-cause methods such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, and 8D.
• Put corrective and preventive actions into effect and validate that they are working as intended.
• Work with production and engineering teams to enhance manufacturing methods and outcomes.
• Prepare, organize, and update quality reports, records, and inspection documents.
• Track supplier quality performance and perform supplier audits when needed.
• Ensure processes remain aligned with standards and frameworks such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or other relevant industry requirements.
• Assist with internal and external audit activities.
• Train team members on quality procedures, standards, and best practices.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement efforts using Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen approaches.

Required qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, or a similar engineering field.
• About 8 to 10 years of experience in quality engineering or quality assurance, depending on employer needs.
• Working knowledge of quality management systems and manufacturing operations.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
• Comfort using Microsoft Office and quality-related tools or software.

Preferred skills and experience

• Understanding of statistical analysis and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
• Hands-on exposure to FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, APQP, and MSA.
• Familiarity with ISO standards and audit methods.
• Certification such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is considered an advantage.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma practices.
