About the Role
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is seeking individuals with an accounting or finance background to transition into a Special Agent career. This role is exempt from the federal civilian hiring freeze. As a Special Agent, you will play a critical role in safeguarding national security by investigating a wide range of threats, including violent crimes, cyberattacks, terrorism, and fraud. Your analytical and data analysis skills will be crucial in identifying patterns, uncovering vital information, and supporting complex investigations. How Your Accounting and Finance Background Translates
Your existing expertise in accounting and finance provides a strong foundation for a Special Agent role. Skills developed in financial analysis, budgeting, and risk management, including experience with tools like R and Tableau, and financial accounting principles, are highly valued. The FBI will leverage your ability to interpret information, connect details, and make sense of complex situations. In this role, data and signals you've previously worked with will be transformed into evidence, your field insights will become critical intelligence, and your contributions will shift from supporting to leading investigations.
Major Duties
- Plan and execute investigations into potential violations of federal laws, cybersecurity threats, and public safety concerns.
- Apply judgment, resourcefulness, and versatility to effectively manage investigative demands.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with domestic and international law enforcement agencies.
- Maintain a high level of physical fitness to meet the demands of law enforcement duties.
Key Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
- Must be willing to undertake travel as necessary.
- Must satisfy all FBI Employment Eligibility criteria.
Education
A bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. accredited college or university is required. A degree in accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, or forensic accounting is preferred. All degrees must be verified with official college transcripts.
