About the organisation

Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland is recognised for delivering globally significant impact through strengths in research, scholarship, teaching, and partnerships, all shaped by its distinctive place in Aotearoa New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific. The role sits within Auckland Business School, a leading and triple-crown accredited school with a strong international standing in research and teaching excellence.

The opportunity

The Faculty of Business and Economics is hiring a Student and Programme Adviser to support the Graduate School of Management Professional Programmes team on an 18-month fixed-term basis.

This position focuses on a portfolio of professional postgraduate programmes and blends student-facing support with programme advice. The aim is to help students enjoy a smooth, positive, and successful experience from enrolment through to completion.

Working with students, academic staff, and professional colleagues, you will advise on programme and course choices, assist with student progression, and guide learners through important stages of their academic pathway. You will also monitor engagement and academic progress, spot students who may need extra support, and connect them with suitable services and resources.

Key duties

  • Guide current and prospective students on programme structure and course selection.
  • Help with student progression, enrolment processes, and programme administration tasks.
  • Track student participation and academic performance, and coordinate support for students who may be at risk.
  • Collaborate with academic and professional teams to support student achievement and programme delivery.
  • Serve as a trusted contact for students and build strong working relationships throughout their studies.
  • Assist with programme communications, events, and promotional initiatives.

What you will bring

The ideal candidate is a confident communicator who enjoys working with people and developing strong relationships. You should be well organised, easy to approach, and comfortable managing several priorities while delivering high-quality service and support.

You will have experience in student services, programme coordination, advisory work, or another customer-focused role, ideally in a tertiary, academic, or similarly complex setting. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, as are solid organisational abilities and the capacity to juggle competing demands. A tertiary qualification, or equivalent relevant experience, is required.

Employment details

This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours per week on an 18-month fixed-term contract. The salary band is NZD 73,400 to 90,300 per year, depending on skills and experience.

What we offer

  • Flexible working practices, typically including up to 2 days working from home in this role.
  • Up to 6.75% company superannuation contribution.
  • A competitive salary package and five weeks of annual leave.
