Role Overview

Saipem Qatar is looking for a Telecommunication Engineer to join the Engineering Fixed Facilities Department and report to the Telecommunication and Instrumentation Manager. This role contributes to the delivery of telecommunication engineering work across project phases, from studies and estimation through execution, construction, and commissioning support.

Core Responsibilities

The position covers technical engineering activities assigned by the Telecommunication Lead or Project Discipline Lead, including design, review, validation, testing, and overall engineering support for telecommunication systems. The engineer will also work closely with other project specialists and designers, while coordinating activities carried out by both internal and external teams.

Project and Execution Duties

  • Carry out assigned technical work within the telecommunication discipline while ensuring compliance with QA/QC and HSE standards.
  • Support feasibility studies and commercial or bidding activities by preparing quantities for telecommunication systems cost and erection estimates.
  • Assist the Discipline Lead in defining man-hours and cost estimates.
  • Review client technical documents, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Set the engineering design basis and related guidelines for telecommunication work.
  • Coordinate subcontracted engineering tasks and verify subcontractor deliverables.
  • Prepare technical documents for telecommunication material and service requisitions, and complete technical evaluations following internal procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance to the wider project team.
  • Optimize telecommunication system design to keep cost and complexity low while remaining compliant with contract and safety requirements.
  • Prepare functional specifications and equipment data sheets for telecommunication systems.
  • Validate vendor bills of quantities.
  • Coordinate detailed engineering activities and ensure installation drawings are properly defined.
  • Take part in FAT activities and vendor workshops.
  • Support site acceptance testing and functional checks.
  • Assist the construction team with technical and engineering input.
  • Perform site engineering tasks during construction and commissioning.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering is preferred.
  • More than 5 years of EPC experience, with strong expertise in telecommunication and instrumentation.
  • Strong command of English.
  • Experience with EPC project environments and related company procedures.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to provide technical support and work with bidding methods, standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of design criteria and engineering guidelines.
  • Practical knowledge of telecommunication systems, 2D and 3D modelling, and electronic document management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
  • Advanced Excel capability.
