Role Overview

The Data Scientist will shape the data roadmap for the Commercial Bank and support strategic goals through data, analytics, and actionable insights. This person will work closely with Commercial Banking teams to support the analytics agenda, explain business performance through data, build hypotheses that lead to action, and uncover growth opportunities through hands-on work in data engineering, analysis, and visualization.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand business needs and independently carry out analysis or create reports and dashboards that meet those needs.
• Convert analytical findings and technical concepts into clear visuals and explanations for non-technical stakeholders and senior leaders.
• Spot opportunities for new data capabilities that support strategic priorities and collaborate with the data enablement team to build solutions.
• Work directly with business partners to handle data requests and support their data needs with minimal supervision.
• Run complex data queries, reconcile datasets, review outcomes, and draw conclusions for senior management.
• Promote a stronger data-driven culture by mentoring data analysts and helping build analytical capability across internal teams.

Required Skills and Capabilities

• Practical experience with data modelling, data engineering, and analysis tools including BI platforms, Power BI, SQL, and Python libraries such as pandas and numpy.
• Ability to create reports and dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deliver effectively.
• Skill in identifying important insights and presenting them clearly to business audiences.
• Advanced understanding of data structures and effective data visualization for business communication.
• Knowledge of current trends in analytics.
• Familiarity with the banking industry and banking systems.
• Preferred exposure to mapping methods, including route and distance calculations, and building custom market and demographic maps.

Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Business Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics, Econometrics, Engineering, or the Sciences.
• At least 3 years of experience in a data analytics role with direct work on large datasets, data wrangling, analysis, and insight generation.
• Comfort working independently with business partners and across varied corporate functions.
• A master’s degree in a quantitative discipline is preferred.
• Experience in Financial Services, especially Retail or Commercial Banking products, systems, and data, is highly preferred.
