Director of Accounting / Controller

Role overview

Terra Innovations is a diversified real estate and development company based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The organization operates with a lean structure, fast decision-making, and direct involvement from its leadership team. It is seeking a Controller to take full ownership of accounting across its entities and provide timely, dependable financial insight for business decisions.

This is a senior, hands-on position focused on daily accounting operations, month-end and year-end close, and preparing reporting that leadership uses to guide the business. The role will also involve strengthening controls and working closely with the President, finance leadership, and division heads.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all core accounting activities, including the general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing in QuickBooks.
• Lead monthly and annual close activities, including financial statement preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare reporting for leadership across multiple entities and divisions, including consolidated reporting.
• Support planning and decision-making through budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Establish and maintain controls related to cash management, account review, and technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition and complex transactions.
• Oversee accounting systems and related processes, keeping QuickBooks and connected tools organized and efficient as the business expands.
• Conduct internal audits to safeguard data accuracy and policy compliance, and coordinate external audits when required.

Candidate profile

• Solid corporate accounting experience with a strong background in financial management and reporting.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
• Comfort using QuickBooks or another comparable accounting platform such as Sage, Xero, or NetSuite.
• Strong grasp of core accounting concepts, including double-entry bookkeeping, debits and credits, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis.
• Proven ability in cash management, reconciliation, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Clear written communication skills for financial reports and documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
• Experience in real estate, development, or multi-entity accounting is advantageous.
• Background in public accounting or progress toward CPA certification is preferred.

This is a full-time, on-site role in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, within the Metro Jacksonville area.
