About the company

Dyson’s Commodity Management function is central to its global supply chain, focused on securing the component technologies that enable future products. The Direct Procurement team works across all commodities to make sure the supplier base is technically strong, commercially attractive, resilient, and aligned with Dyson’s long-term technology direction.

Working in close partnership with Discovery Procurement, Research, NPI, NPD, Operations, and suppliers, the team steers the commercial and strategic direction of the electronics supply chain. It combines deep commodity knowledge with forward-looking planning to identify technology movements, supply market changes, and opportunities to create advantage through strong supplier relationships.

Role overview

In this role, you will take ownership of the commercial, strategic, and supply-readiness performance for a critical electronics commodity used across Dyson’s global product range. You will be the main commercial contact for suppliers, ensuring electronic parts are sourced competitively, dual-sourced where possible, and protected against supply risk.

By working closely with Discovery Procurement and RDD, you will help shape component choices, manage supplier engagement from early concept stages through mass production, and keep the supply chain ready to support product launches on schedule. The position calls for both strategic judgement and hands-on execution, balancing long-term commodity planning with fast-moving supply issues.

You will also handle negotiations, manage complex supplier transitions, create alternative supply routes, and guide suppliers toward the quality, cost, and performance standards required to support Dyson’s future technology goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create and put into action long-term sourcing plans for key electronic components, aligned with category needs, technology roadmaps, and future product plans.
  • Maintain an approved vendor list that reflects technical suitability, commercial strength, exposure to risk, and long-term fit with Dyson’s strategy.
  • Build dual-sourcing and alternate component strategies to improve resilience, cost efficiency, and flexibility.
  • Work with RDD to influence component choice and make sure suppliers meet cost, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Lead component qualification efforts, including alternate parts for risk reduction or cost-saving initiatives.
  • Run commercial negotiations and contract discussions across the supplier base to secure strong cost, performance, and commercial outcomes.
  • Carry out cost benchmarking and detailed cost review as needed, manage PPV, and oversee risk-buy decisions for critical parts.
  • Handle commercial exposure at contract manufacturers, including cancellation charges, rescheduling, and demand fluctuations.
  • Assess supplier and component risk, partnering with Category Procurement Managers and Commodity Managers to define and carry out mitigation actions.
  • Work with wider supply chain teams to manage demand shifts, expedite urgent materials, and address allocation constraints.
  • Ensure supplier capacity planning and long-term business continuity plans are strong and aligned with growth expectations.
  • Act as a global coordination point for electronics procurement matters, aligning with engineering, quality, operations, logistics, finance, and upstream teams.
  • Increase visibility of supplier performance, risks, and opportunities across global stakeholders.
  • Develop strong relationships with strategic suppliers to support innovation, cost reduction, and competitive differentiation.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, supply chain, or a similar field.
  • Solid background in global commodity management, ideally in electronics, semiconductors, sensors, or displays.
  • Proven track record of delivering both strategic and tactical procurement results, including sourcing, negotiation, cost management, and supplier development.
  • Experience managing supplier performance, reducing risk, and leading complex commercial discussions.
  • Good understanding of PCBA-level components and upstream electronics supply chains.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills across international teams.
  • Excellent analytical ability, with hands-on use of Excel, Power BI, and similar data tools.
  • Ability to work independently, influence others effectively, and operate in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment.
  • Project management experience will be an advantage.
