About Blacksmith
Blacksmith builds infrastructure for extremely fast CI execution. The company’s first product helps teams run GitHub Actions much quicker and at a lower cost by using and operating its own worldwide fleet of bare-metal servers instead of relying on standard cloud VMs.
At present, the platform coordinates tens of millions of Firecracker VM runs every month, supports CI for more than 3,000 companies, and reached around $10M in ARR in under two years. Revenue has grown more than 3x since the beginning of 2026.
The team runs thousands of bare-metal machines across several regions, schedules over 100,000 vCPUs at the same time, and manages a petabyte-scale Ceph cluster in-house.
Blacksmith has raised $13.5M across Seed and Series A, with GV leading the round. The company is deliberately keeping the team small and highly capable. It was founded by people with strong experience in systems and scaling, including work on search and ads infrastructure at Faire and large distributed systems at Cockroach Labs. GTM is led by Jon Boyer, previously Head of Sales at Zapier.
The company is expanding the same CI infrastructure into a broader product platform, including agent sandboxes at scale and an in-house background coding agent built on top of that platform.
What You Could Work On
- Develop and improve Codesmith, the background coding agent, including the workflows, interface, and underlying systems that let engineers hand off coding tasks to AI and move faster.
- Build products that help engineers and AI agents investigate flaky CI jobs by identifying failure patterns, connecting logs with infrastructure signals, and making root-cause analysis quicker and easier.
- Partner with design to deliver refined, high-performance product experiences across the analytics and observability platform that engineers use to understand their CI systems.
- Rapidly prototype and refine AI-driven capabilities, from natural-language interactions to automated fix suggestions, while owning the full stack from prompt work to backend services and frontend UI.
- Help shape the agent platform architecture, including sandboxed workspaces and the orchestration of agent sessions.
What We’re Looking For
- Solid computer science fundamentals and strong command of React along with modern frontend engineering.
- Ability to collaborate closely with design and build polished, fast interfaces, with willingness to dig into browser performance, rendering issues, and sophisticated component architecture.
- At least 3 years of software development experience.
- Comfort working onsite in New York City five days per week.
- Interest in early-stage startup environments and comfort operating amid ambiguity.
Bonus Experience
- Experience building your own side projects, hustles, or startup ideas.
- Ability to create new processes and improve them quickly through iteration.
Compensation and Benefits
- Medical, vision, and dental coverage.
- Competitive base pay plus equity.
- 401(k) matching.
- Unlimited paid time off.
- Annual team offsite.
- Early exercise stock options.
- 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for US employees.
Compensation Range
The expected base compensation is between $200,000 and $300,000.
