About the role
Phoenix helps public sector organisations across the UK move forward with digital transformation by delivering modern solutions in cloud, hybrid infrastructure, data, AI, security, and collaboration tools. The business is looking for a Project Manager to join its IT Services team and oversee the successful delivery of consultancy-led projects spanning infrastructure, cloud, mobile device management, and security.
In this position, you will partner with Technical Consultants, customers, and internal teams to guide work from the outset through to final delivery. You will act as the main contact for projects throughout their lifecycle, taking ownership of planning, governance, reporting, risk control, and ensuring delivery to agreed timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
Key duties
- Lead the full delivery cycle for consultancy projects and wider programmes of work.
- Prepare and keep up to date project initiation documents, project plans, and other supporting materials.
- Produce regular status updates and keep track of risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies.
- Organise technical consulting resources so delivery stays on track.
- Handle several customer projects at the same time while meeting delivery goals.
- Track progress, manage change requests, and keep customers informed about cost and schedule updates.
- Chair project meetings with customers, both virtually and in person when needed.
- Set up governance arrangements, communication plans, and stakeholder engagement approaches.
- Manage dependencies across projects and multiple delivery streams.
- Coordinate with third-party suppliers and vendors when required.
- Maintain control of project finances, including budgets and spending.
- Ensure delivery aligns with the agreed methods, standards, and governance processes.
- Take a proactive approach to resolving risks and issues while clearly communicating any impact.
- Develop strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders throughout delivery.
What we're looking for
We are seeking someone with strong project management capability, excellent organisation, and the confidence to manage competing priorities across multiple projects. The ideal candidate communicates well with stakeholders at all levels, works comfortably in customer-facing situations, and can stay composed in a busy delivery environment.
You should have experience handling risks, issues, dependencies, and change control, along with strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. The role also calls for the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with wider delivery teams. A solid understanding of project management principles and best practice is important, as is confidence using Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and Outlook. Familiarity with Microsoft Project would be an advantage.
Experience and qualifications
- A PRINCE2 qualification or another recognised project management certification is required.
- Good practical knowledge of PRINCE2 methods and project management processes is expected.
- Experience delivering IT projects or technology-focused workstreams is preferred.
- Background in IT Services or Managed Services environments is desirable.
- Exposure to Microsoft 365 projects and programmes would be beneficial.
- Previous work with public sector customers is also an advantage.
Location and working arrangement
The main base for this role is Phoenix's HQ in Pocklington (YO42). Hybrid working is available, with the expectation that on-site attendance will follow team requirements.
Hiring process
After an initial screening conversation with the Recruitment Team, candidates can expect a two-step interview process: one stage conducted online and one in person.
Other important information
The company is aiming to appoint someone as quickly as possible, so applicants with shorter notice periods may be given preference.
Because of the nature of the work, every employee must complete a BPSS check. In some cases, additional security clearance may also be needed. Any offer is conditional on successfully passing the required BPSS screening.
Equal opportunity note
Phoenix encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply. The company notes that people from women and underrepresented groups sometimes hold back unless they meet every requirement, and invites candidates to apply even if they do not match every point listed.
