Role Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted shift operations in production by coordinating the crew, supporting the shift superintendent, and overseeing day-to-day operations and maintenance activities. The aim is to meet production goals while upholding strong standards of safety and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
The role includes the core responsibilities below, along with any additional task assigned by senior management as needed.
- Help prepare the shift operating plan and make sure daily execution stays aligned with company standards and applicable regulations.
- Support rollout of new initiatives and projects in line with approved policies and future operational needs.
- Share ideas to improve site processes and technical specifications so they reflect industry best practices.
- Monitor equipment performance, support predictive maintenance, and analyze data using OMPro to improve site efficiency.
- Carry out regular equipment checks and track process parameters to spot issues early; work with relevant teams to speed up maintenance and ensure safe handover of equipment.
- Oversee safe shutdowns, smooth start-ups, and proper equipment and facility preservation during extended shutdown periods.
- Take preventive action to identify and reduce operational risks and hazards so emergency shutdowns are minimized and operations remain safe and efficient.
- Investigate root causes of equipment or process failures and recommend corrective actions to avoid repeat breakdowns.
- Implement PIOs and assist with sample trials and improvement trials during shifts so activities run without disruption.
- Maintain accurate shift logs with complete and consistent records of site activities.
- Support the panel operator during plant upsets.
- Understand rotary machine seal systems and the importance of seal pot level and pressure.
- Understand compressor lubrication systems and the significance of temperature, pressure, and flow conditions.
- Track the status of LO/LC valves.
- Be familiar with field instrument locations across the plant.
- Coordinate with other plants to maintain SOC levels for raw materials.
- Work with the maintenance team for job planning and execution.
- Distinguish between routine, one-time, and shutdown-related jobs.
- Perform risk checks during handover, takeover, and job execution, and conduct toolbox talks before work begins to reinforce safe practices.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed so the work environment remains safe and incidents are prevented.
- Identify near-miss events through root cause analysis, document them properly, and report them to help prevent recurrence.
- Enforce permit-to-work compliance so all site activities follow the required regulations and guidelines.
- Understand the incident classification system (API 754) and make required portal entries when needed.
Education
A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology is required.
Experience
The role calls for 3 to 7 years of experience as a shift engineer in site operations, including at least 2 years in a panel executive role.
