Role overview

This position is based at Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara in Doha, Qatar. Minor Hotels is a global hospitality group with a portfolio of more than 530 properties across 50+ countries, operating brands such as Anantara, Avani, Elewana, Oaks, NH Hotels, NH Collection, nhow, and TIVOLI.

What you will do

• Stay ahead of guest needs and respond to questions and requests in a way that leaves guests fully satisfied.
• Take full responsibility for the vessel, including the safety, security, and comfort of everyone on board.
• Lead the crew, including training them and tracking their development.
• Oversee your own uniform and ensure your team presents themselves well and maintains their uniforms properly.
• Prepare the assigned boat before departure and keep it clean and ready for service.
• Handle navigation and ensure the vessel is operated safely.
• Send distress alerts and request shore-side support whenever needed.
• Act quickly during emergencies and carry out the required procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness inside and outside the boat at all times.
• Manage all logbooks and verify that every entry is correct.
• Make sure manifests are posted for every departure.
• Follow the approved passage plan and explain any deviations.
• Escalate unsafe actions and near misses to management.
• Keep the vessel supplied with fresh water and fuel, and manage black water discharge appropriately.
• Follow safe bunkering procedures.
• Enforce safety rules, including no-smoking and environmental protection requirements.
• Report vessel, engine, and navigation equipment issues to the Port Captain for onward escalation.
• Address passenger complaints and concerns professionally.
• Ensure passenger luggage and cargo are properly secured and stored.
• Check mooring ropes and berthing equipment to ensure they remain in good condition.
• Complete departure checks and report defective equipment to the operations team.
• Notify the Coast Guard and other relevant authorities when required.
• Safeguard boat certificates and manuals, including the registration card.
• Report crew shortages or absenteeism.
• Lead a daily operations briefing before the start of duty.
• Verify that the fire panel remains operational.
• Ensure all fire-fighting and life-saving appliances are in order.
• Pass on all operational updates to the incoming skipper and Port Captain at shift handover.
• Work across more than three vessel types in the fleet, including IPS-driven vessels.
• Support training of other crew members when needed, in coordination with the training officer.
• Participate in dry-docking transfers and related procedures.
• Handle emergency sailings in heavy weather only after confirmation from the Marine Operations Manager.
• Handle emergency sailings in restricted visibility only after confirmation from the Marine Operations Manager.

Requirements

• Valid Master 500 certification, STCW, radio license, and medical fitness certificate proving fitness for sea duty.
• 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in the same field.
• Strong English communication ability.
• Good technical knowledge and hands-on skills.
• Well-presented, pleasant personality.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Capability to manage multiple tasks at once.
