Role Overview

Ploy is looking for a Software Engineer Intern to help build the product that brings this vision to life. The work will focus on the core web application and use JavaScript, Next.js, and modern frontend tools.

This internship sits at the overlap of product engineering, design engineering, and growth. The work includes building product flows, interfaces, and experiences that let users create, customize, and publish high-performing websites with AI agents at the center.

It is a high-ownership, high-context internship at an early-stage startup. Instead of isolated tasks, the intern will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, founders, and growth teams to ship real features that users interact with directly.

The ideal person enjoys building, learns quickly, has strong product taste, and writes clean, thoughtful code that helps teams move faster.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and improve user-facing product experiences using JavaScript, Next.js, React, and current web technologies.
• Build interfaces and supporting systems for agent-driven workflows that help users create, edit, and launch web pages faster.
• Refine the product’s small details so the experience feels fast, intuitive, and polished, including loading, empty, and interaction states.
• Support growth-focused tests across onboarding, activation, conversion, and retention.
• Create internal tools and workflows that help the team work more efficiently across product, growth, customer success, and operations.
• Contribute to frontend speed, responsiveness, page performance, and overall reliability.
• Partner with design and product teams to turn ideas, mockups, and prototypes into functional interfaces.
• Write maintainable code, take part in code reviews, resolve bugs, and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
• Stay close to customer feedback and translate real user pain points into product improvements.

Qualifications

• Background in building web applications with JavaScript, React, and Next.js.
• Solid grasp of modern frontend development, including components, state management, routing, APIs, and responsive design.
• Interest in startups, AI, websites, growth, design engineering, and the future of software.
• Strong product judgment with attention to how software feels, not just whether it functions.
• Comfort working quickly, learning new tools, and solving problems without step-by-step instructions.
• Ability to break unclear technical problems into practical next actions.
• Careful attention to detail in both code and user experience.
• Willingness to work closely with engineers, designers, founders, and go-to-market teams.
• Bias toward shipping real products and getting them in front of users.
• Comfort working in person with a fast-moving team in New York City.
• Bonus experience with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Node.js, Vercel, Supabase, PostgreSQL, Prisma, or similar tools.
• Bonus experience building with AI tools, LLM APIs, agents, or automation workflows.
• Bonus if you have side projects, shipped products, open-source contributions, or a portfolio you are proud of.
