About the Role
A premier global hedge fund is seeking a skilled analyst to focus on US macro-driven equity investments. This position is part of a discretionary macro team, where the analyst will be tasked with developing and implementing equity investment ideas derived from overarching macroeconomic trends. This is a critical role supporting a senior Portfolio Manager, emphasizing the conversion of macro perspectives into practical equity trades (both long and short) across various sectors and market conditions. The job integrates macro research, thematic investment strategies, and in-depth fundamental equity analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop long/short equity investment concepts stemming from macroeconomic trends, including interest rates, inflation, economic growth cycles, and policy changes.
- Convert top-down macroeconomic outlooks into strategic sector allocations and specific stock opportunities.
- Perform thorough fundamental analysis to inform trade construction, involving financial modeling and detailed industry research.
- Identify key catalysts and optimal timing for expressing macro views through equity investments.
- Continuously monitor portfolio exposures and update investment theses in response to evolving macroeconomic data.
- Collaborate closely with the Portfolio Manager on trade structuring, risk management, and determining position sizes.
- Keep abreast of global macroeconomic developments, including central bank policies, fiscal policies, and geopolitical risks, and evaluate their market implications.
- Contribute to overall portfolio construction and generate cross-asset investment ideas when appropriate.
Background and Qualifications
- Possess 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within:
- Hedge funds or asset management firms, with a focus on macro or long/short equity strategies.
- Top-tier sell-side equity research platforms.
- Macroeconomic research or strategy roles that include equity market analysis.
- Demonstrate a robust understanding of:
- US macroeconomic principles and the dynamics of economic policy.
- Equity factor positioning and how sectors react to macroeconomic shifts.
- Exhibit a proven capacity for formulating independent investment perspectives and challenging conventional views.
- Showcase experience in connecting macroeconomic themes to equity valuations and market price movements.
- Possess strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities.
