Utility Worker

About the Role

Via builds technology that helps public transit systems become more accessible, efficient, and data-driven. The company works with transit agencies around the world to modernize transportation networks and improve access to work, healthcare, and education.

As a Utility Worker in Mobile, Alabama, you will help keep the site, vehicles, and surrounding areas safe, tidy, and fully operational. This is a practical, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys varied maintenance and support work. Training on the job is provided, and previous transit experience is not required.

Key Duties

• Clean, maintain, and detail buses and support vehicles so they remain safe and comfortable for riders and staff.
• Handle general facility and grounds maintenance, including custodial work and small repair tasks, to keep the environment clean and safe.
• Carry out basic vehicle maintenance work, such as changing tires, with guidance from the Maintenance Manager.
• Assist operations staff with a range of day-to-day needs, such as relocating equipment, arranging work areas, and supporting special assignments.
• Take on additional responsibilities as discussed in the interview and as operational priorities change.

Candidate Profile

• You must have a valid driver’s license.
• You should be comfortable adapting to different tasks and taking on multiple responsibilities.
• You need to be proactive, dependable, and able to move tasks forward without close supervision.
• Employment is contingent on passing a drug test, criminal background check, and motor vehicle records review.
• You must be able to complete a pre-employment physical.
• Eligibility requires a clean driving history, with no felonies, no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions, and no more than 2 speeding tickets.
• You must be at least 21 years old.
• You should be able to attend an in-person interview at the Mobile office.

Compensation and Benefits

The final pay rate will depend on your background, skills, knowledge, and experience. The stated hourly pay range is $18 to $20.
