Job description
About Baselayer
Baselayer builds an AI-driven risk platform that helps financial institutions make faster, sharper, and more cost-effective decisions about which businesses to onboard and trust. The product automates merchant onboarding, underwriting, and fraud prevention, and is used by more than 20% of financial institutions in the United States. Using authoritative government data, web-analysis AI agents, and a network built on millions of applications, the company helps stop billions of dollars in merchant fraud and credit risk while quickly approving legitimate applications.
About the Team
You would join a compact team tackling a major problem: financial fraud that drains billions from the system each year. The group is building modern tools to replace slow, costly, outdated approaches. The environment is close-knit, ownership is high, customer impact is immediate, and the work you deliver matters from day one. The team values thoughtful execution, direct communication, and quality. If you want to be part of something that meaningfully changes how trust works across major financial institutions, this role may be a fit.
About the Role
As the founding Account Manager, you will act as the main relationship owner and a trusted advisor for clients making critical fraud and compliance decisions. The role suits someone who is highly driven, strategic, self-motivated, and strong at building relationships. The company is looking for someone who is eager to learn, ready to take on challenges, and motivated to help the business scale quickly.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the key relationship owner for important accounts.
- Develop and deepen relationships with senior executives and client teams to better understand their challenges and feedback.
- Act as the main contact for some of the largest financial institutions, payment companies, and fintechs in the country.
- Expand accounts through renewals, upsells, and referrals by helping customers succeed with Baselayer.
- Become deeply familiar with client workflows and pain points, then partner with internal teams to solve them.
- Create playbooks, feedback mechanisms, and operating processes that help scale the account management and customer success function.
- Work closely with the CEO and partner with product and engineering teams to improve customer operations.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in business development, customer success, or implementation at a fast-growing startup or another highly competitive environment such as consulting, banking, or venture capital.
- Strong understanding of how financial institutions adopt and use compliance and fraud tools, either through direct experience or by advising similar customers.
- Excellent communication skills with a polished, energetic presence in meetings, presentations, and QBRs.
- Comfort and confidence when working with C-level stakeholders and handling ambiguity.
- Strong persistence and a results-oriented mindset.
- Self-driven, curious, and able to thrive in fast-changing environments.
- Open to feedback and committed to using it to improve performance.
- Highly motivated by equity, ownership, and the chance to help build a company from early stage to scale.
Work Location
This position is based in New York City and follows a hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in the office.
Compensation
The base salary range is $120,000 to $170,000, plus equity. Variable pay is commission-based.
Benefits
- Flexible paid time off so you can rest and recharge without rigid approval processes.
- In-office collaboration in New York City, with a 4-day weekly office schedule.
- Competitive pay paired with equity so team members can think and act like owners.
- Opportunity to help shape the foundation of a high-growth startup alongside experienced founders and operators.
- Employer-covered health, dental, and vision premiums at 100%, with no hidden paycheck deductions.
- 401(k) plan with company matching contributions.
- HSA contributions on eligible plans.
- Monthly gym stipend of $250.
- A transparent, candid culture that gives every team member a voice.
