Job description
Role overview
Soul Atlas Universe is a fast-growing creative studio building original films, games, and comics within its own fantasy setting. The team is looking for an accountant who can help establish and support the financial foundations of a scaling start-up, working closely with the COO, tax advisers, the current accountant, and the legal team. The role is based in Ireland and requires the right to work there.
About the company
The business has spent the past 4.5 years developing a shared fantasy universe after initially being brought in to package a TV project. Rather than giving up ownership of the intellectual property, the team chose to build the world independently. From a small founding group, the company has expanded to more than 150 people, and over 200 if earlier and short-term collaborators are included.
Its current creative slate includes three short films, with two in active development and one in post-production, each around 30 minutes long. It also includes a comic series with nine issues in Season 1 at 45 pages per issue, plus two games: a card game available online and offline, and a tabletop RPG with one-shots, campaign rules, and region expansions. In addition, the company produces music, artwork, and runs an in-house media marketing and operations function.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee compliance matters with the Revenue Commissioners and the Companies Registration Office.
- Prepare corporation tax work and support filing alongside the accountant already on the team.
- Set up the accounting framework for the business, including the chart of accounts.
- Work with tax advisers to shape policies for revenue recognition and profit allocation.
- Partner with the legal team to design financial models for the company.
- Help leadership prepare for investment and strengthen financial planning.
- Advise on how compensation arrangements should be handled in relation to Irish Revenue requirements.
Candidate profile
- Must be a chartered accountant in Ireland.
- Should have experience dealing with Irish Revenue and the CRO, ideally in SMEs, start-ups, or scaling businesses.
- Needs strong knowledge of Irish accounting rules and corporate tax compliance.
- Should be comfortable handling non-standard situations and collaborating with employment counsel and finance leadership to build defensible structures.
- Needs to be organised, detail-focused, and able to communicate processes clearly.
- Should work independently without needing close supervision.
- Prior experience creating revenue-treatment structures such as royalties, profit participation, or deferred compensation is preferred.
Additional advantages
- Experience with IP-led businesses and multi-company or holding-company structures.
- An interest in fantasy stories and world-building.
Team and working style
You will collaborate with the company and IP lawyers, the COO, an accountant with 10 years of experience in Ireland, and tax advisers being brought on board.
Compensation and engagement
This is a part-time arrangement of about 3 to 5 hours per week, with flexibility depending on the week. The company understands that you may have other commitments and expects you to set your own boundaries while keeping the team informed of your availability. A shorter temporary collaboration is also possible, and the company can structure the work in phases if needed.
There is currently no cash salary for any member of the team, from leadership through to production roles. Instead, the compensation model is based on profit participation and royalties. The team is developing a formal profit-share and royalty structure that will give contributors a share of future upside. A more detailed breakdown can be shared during the interview process so you can decide whether to continue, and the arrangement is described as an investment-style contract based on time contributed and profit participation earned. The company is open to supporting due diligence before you join.
