About the Company
Sabipay is a payments technology company focused on making online booking and point-of-sale payments simple and secure across Africa, including through mobile app solutions. The business is a subsidiary of Pesapal Limited and operates under regulation from the Bank of Zambia.
Role Summary
We are looking for a proactive, self-driven Accountant to handle daily accounting and finance activities. This person will be responsible for keeping accounting records accurate and current, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and helping run an efficient finance function.
What Success Looks Like
- Financial records remain accurate, reconciliations are completed on schedule, and reports are submitted correctly and on time.
- Useful financial information is provided to support decision-making and keep operations running smoothly.
- Close coordination with sales, operations, and leadership helps maintain strong controls and compliance.
- Full ownership is taken for financial accuracy, statutory compliance, cash flow oversight, and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Ensure the organisation follows internal policies and applicable local regulatory requirements.
- Support the budgeting cycle by preparing budget proposals and monitoring spend against budget so variances stay within acceptable limits.
- Oversee country cash flow needs and safeguard cash to support smooth operations.
- Prepare financial reports promptly and handle cash request processing when required.
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance on cost reduction and profit improvement.
- Track taxation obligations and support compliance.
Accounting Functions
- Record transactions in the accounting system.
- Maintain strong banking relationships.
- Manage bank accounts so funds are consistently available for country programme activities.
- Keep financial records updated, accurate, and properly coded.
- Prepare bank reconciliations within deadlines.
- Reconcile the manual fixed asset register with the accounting system on time.
- Oversee financial operations for field activities, including sales and other budgeted work, ensuring full compliance.
- Manage petty cash and file and serialise petty cash vouchers.
Reporting
- Prepare regular reports such as balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and management account reports.
- Ensure month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities are completed accurately and on time.
Job Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification is an advantage.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in financial systems and budgeting, financial reporting, financial analysis, auditing, and taxation within Zambia.
- Practical experience using accounting software, including Microsoft tools.
- Strong knowledge of Zambia’s financial regulatory framework.
- Very good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and solid analytical ability.
