Job description
About the role
DSTA is building AI-driven autonomous systems to solve demanding mission problems and strengthen Singapore’s defence capabilities. In this role, you will work with experts from industry, academia, and Singapore’s Defence Technology Community to develop next-generation autonomy solutions. The position offers the chance to contribute to impactful research and development while growing in a collaborative environment focused on learning and innovation.
Opportunity
You will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers working on AI and robotics applications for multi-robot reconnaissance in challenging terrain. This role is suited to people who enjoy turning emerging technologies into practical systems and want to help push the frontiers of autonomous robotics R&D.
Key responsibilities
- Build, design, and evaluate multi-robot exploration functions, including sensor data handling, SLAM, and autonomous route planning.
- Develop and refine machine learning and robotics software for unmanned platforms, mainly using C++, CUDA, or Rust, with Python as an additional option.
- Own software and hardware integration work and carry out testing across simulation environments, local trials, and overseas field exercises.
- Improve the tools and methods used for AI and robotics development so the team stays at the leading edge.
- Contribute to edge robotics software and AI engineering with an emphasis on fast, reliable real-time decision-making.
- Keep up with progress across robotics, networking, computer vision, cybersecurity, human-robot interaction, assured autonomy, systems integration, swarm intelligence, and related fields.
Requirements
- A background in engineering or computing fields such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or Mechatronics.
- Practical experience in robotics work, including both software and hardware integration.
- Ability to work independently in uncertain situations and drive ideas from concept through implementation.
- Strong teamwork skills, with attention to clear code, solid documentation, and effective communication.
- Curiosity and commitment to continuous learning, as well as sharing knowledge to help the broader team grow.
- Confidence in contributing to and guiding technical discussions to support programme delivery.
- Experience with ROS/ROS2, robotics simulation, Git, and Docker will be an advantage.
Additional information
The role is based in Singapore and is a full-time, onsite position. The opportunity is focused on applied R&D for defence-related autonomous systems and multi-robot operations. No salary, stipend, or vacancy count was provided in the source.
