Job description

Overview

AIR Sligo delivers advanced automation systems for manufacturing clients, combining mechanical assemblies, pneumatics, robotics, electrical control, vision, and servo technologies. Its customer base includes large multinational organisations, and projects are delivered across Ireland, Europe, Asia, and South America.

Apprenticeship Opportunities

The company is inviting applicants to join structured apprenticeship pathways in the following trades:

  • MAMF (Mechanical Automation and Mechanical Fitting)
  • Electrical Instrumentation

Entry Requirements

To be considered, candidates need at least a Grade D in five Leaving Certificate subjects, with Mathematics included. A technical subject is preferred, though not mandatory.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should take pride in quality workmanship, demonstrate a strong commitment to safe working practices, and show a positive attitude toward learning and development.

Programme Details

These apprenticeship routes are designed for people starting out in their careers and combine practical, on-the-job experience with classroom-based learning. They are therefore best suited to recent school leavers.

Throughout the programme, apprentices can expect support from experienced engineers and technicians, while also building hands-on experience in highly automated equipment and site operations.

Typical Duties and Training Activities

  • Learn directly from skilled engineers and technicians with specialist expertise.
  • Assist qualified machine-build technicians with day-to-day and occasional non-routine assembly and troubleshooting of automated systems.
  • Keep the Solas training record up to date.
  • Follow all workplace safety and quality procedures at the site.
  • Rotate through different work areas such as panel assembly, field wiring, machine debugging, and installations.
  • Attend block-release training sessions at various stages of the four-year apprenticeship, including possible travel to a Technical Institution.

Additional Information

The apprenticeship is structured as a four-year cycle with phased block-release training. Some travel may be required as part of the training element.
