Job description

About ASOS

ASOS is a global fashion and beauty retailer that gives customers the freedom to express themselves. The company values individuality and creativity, and encourages team members to bring their authentic selves to work. ASOS is also Disability Confident Committed; candidates can request reasonable adjustments during the hiring process by contacting the talent team.

Role overview

This position sits within the ASOS DESIGN team and works alongside the Designer or Senior Designer to create fashion-led ranges for a trend-conscious customer. The role suits someone with a strong fashion eye, neat handwriting, a clear sense of taste, and the ability to turn inspiration into commercially attractive product. Technical development can be supported by the wider team.

Team environment

The design team draws inspiration from global street style, vintage, music, art, the catwalk, and other creative influences to build fresh product across a broad range of categories. The focus is on creating exciting, new, fashion-forward pieces for ASOS customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate trends, develop concepts, and design ASOS DESIGN ranges, including seasonally relevant shapes, colours, fabrics, and balanced product selection for a global audience.
  • Use sales performance information to create commercially strong and fashion-forward ranges.
  • Track current and emerging trends through a variety of sources and translate that insight into first-to-market product.
  • Work with the technical team on initial fittings and help solve product issues, while contributing a clear design viewpoint.
  • Build effective relationships with suppliers and guide factories on trend direction, construction details, materials, and trims.
  • Follow the critical path to meet deadlines and ensure product launches in the best possible selling window.
  • Develop distinctive products across both long lead-time ranges and faster Test & React programs.
  • Contribute to brand OKRs, trading decisions, and department strategy by using data and analytics to spot opportunities and risks.
  • Recommend creative actions to the Designer, Senior Designer, and management team.
  • Support speed-to-market work and critical path delivery linked to brand strategy and ASOS Heart initiatives.
  • Spot and act on opportunities to move first in the market.

Functional knowledge

The role calls for experience designing within womenswear and/or footwear and accessories, with a handwriting that fits the ASOS customer. Experience from an aspirational brand or a comparable high street retailer is preferred, and experience may come from womenswear, footwear, accessories, or a related fashion category. Familiarity with suppliers in the Far East, Europe, and the UK is important, as is experience partnering with a buyer to plan and deliver a balanced range and first-to-market product.

Working style and skills

The ideal candidate will show strong taste, creative instinct, and idea generation. Technical ability is useful, though it does not need to be fully developed at this level. Strong software skills are expected, including Photoshop, Adobe tools, CAD, Miro, and AI design tools.

Qualifications and attributes

  • Fashion-forward thinking with a clear design handwriting that aligns with the ASOS customer.
  • Strong time management and the ability to stay organised under pressure.
  • Confidence to identify problems, suggest improvements, and work through barriers calmly.
  • Ability to communicate department performance and strategy to the wider team and senior management.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally for supplier meetings and inspiration or development trips.
  • Comfortable working in an agile, dynamic way while spotting risks and opportunities.
  • Proactive, independent working style within a defined framework.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment and adapt priorities as needed.
  • Exposure to AI tools such as Midjourney or Fermat is desirable.

Benefits

  • Staff discount on ASOS purchases.
  • Access to ASOS Develops for learning and development opportunities.
  • Employee sample sales.
  • Access to a wide library of LinkedIn learning materials.
  • 25 days of paid annual leave, plus one extra day for your birthday.
  • Discretionary performance-related bonus scheme.
  • Private medical cover.
  • Flexible benefits allowance that can be taken as cash or used toward other benefits.
