An environmental consultancy near Wickford is looking for an Assistant Ecologist to join a close, quality-focused team. The role suits someone who likes varied work and wants to support ecological services across projects in different sectors and locations. The main focus will be field surveys, technical reporting, and project support to help clients satisfy ecology and planning obligations.
Compensation and working environment

Responsibilities
- Carry out a broad range of ecological site surveys.
- Undertake habitat evaluations and surveys for protected or notable species.
- Prepare accurate technical reports and supporting documents.
- Contribute to ecological impact work and recommend mitigation actions.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams, clients, and outside stakeholders.
- Help plan and deliver consultancy assignments from start to finish.
Requirements
- Experience working in an ecologist role.
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Management, or a similar field.
- Working knowledge of UK ecological law and industry guidance.
- Strong ability to communicate clearly in writing and in person.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Eligibility to work in the UK without restriction.
- Residence within a sensible commuting distance of the Wickford office.
- Good organisation and the ability to balance several tasks at once.
