Role overview

The Assistant Pastry Chef helps the pastry team with the preparation, baking, and presentation of pastries, breads, and desserts. The position plays a key part in keeping output consistent, maintaining a clean workspace, and ensuring all food safety practices are followed.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, and toppings used in pastries and other baked products.
  • Support the Pastry Chef with baking, decorating, and putting together desserts.
  • Accurately weigh, measure, and combine ingredients based on recipes and instructions.
  • Keep the pastry area and tools neat, clean, and well organized.
  • Store ingredients and completed items correctly, including proper labeling.
  • Follow hygiene, safety, and sanitation procedures throughout the shift.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and inform the team when ingredients or supplies run low.
  • Help with routine production work as well as special orders when required.
  • Maintain the expected standard of quality and consistency across all pastry items.

Qualifications

Prior work in a bakery or pastry kitchen is preferred. Applicants should have a basic understanding of baking methods and pastry preparation, be able to follow directions, and remain effective in a busy work setting. Strong attention to detail, a focus on quality, good communication, and teamwork are important. The role also requires flexibility for early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
