Job description

About the Company

A well-established, privately owned construction management and general contracting firm with over 25 years of experience building across Massachusetts. Specializing in large-scale public sector vertical construction — schools, municipal facilities, police stations, libraries — the company has completed over 100 projects and more than $2.5 billion in work across the state. They take on a focused number of significant, complex projects at a time, which means every person on the team carries real responsibility. The company is stable, financially strong, and largely insulated from private market swings due to its public sector focus. Leadership is hands-on and accessible, and the culture rewards people who stay and grow.

The Role

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our office-based project team in Waltham. This role will support the delivery of large-scale public building projects throughout Massachusetts. Working closely with an experienced Project Manager, you will be involved in the entire project lifecycle, from preconstruction through closeout. Your responsibilities will include managing documentation, coordination, and problem-solving to ensure complex projects remain on track. This is a hands-on position offering significant exposure to active projects, providing a deep understanding of how public sector construction is managed at a high level.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager with daily project administration and coordination tasks.
  • Manage subcontractor communications, including submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and ensure contract compliance.
  • Support procurement processes and scope reviews during the preconstruction phase.
  • Coordinate effectively with field teams, owners, designers, and public agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation throughout all project stages.
  • Attend project meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and track follow-up actions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary ranging from $85,000 to $125,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Eligibility for performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage.
  • A competitive overall benefits package.

The Opportunity

This company fosters internal growth and adopts a long-term perspective when hiring. The career progression from Assistant Project Manager to Project Manager and then to Senior Project Manager is clearly defined, with further advancement opportunities available. If you are seeking early responsibility, mentorship from experienced professionals, and a stable pipeline of meaningful public sector projects for career development, this is an excellent environment to build your career.
