Role Overview
MultiState is looking for a motivated and highly detail-focused Associate to support its expanding team in Arlington, VA. This position offers practical exposure to lobbying compliance and campaign finance work, while also contributing to legislative and regulatory efforts tied to client interests such as environmental, retail, transportation, and energy matters.
The Associate will build capability across the firm’s core service areas, including compliance, issue management, lobbying, and strategic government relations. The role involves monitoring state legislation and regulations, analyzing policy developments, and preparing written materials for internal teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain working knowledge of lobbying compliance rules and form requirements across assigned states and local jurisdictions.
- Prepare and submit state and local lobbying registrations, campaign finance filings, and related reports.
- Create legislative and regulatory briefings, issue trend updates, blog content, and policy analysis for both client and public audiences.
- Carry out research and analysis on compliance matters and policy developments to keep clients up to date.
- Monitor, evaluate, and track legislation, regulations, and broader issue trends connected to client priorities.
- Assist clients, lobbyists, and internal teams with special assignments that contribute to broader firm objectives.

- Strong ability to research, analyze, and communicate clearly in writing.

- Excellent attention to detail with consistently accurate output.
- Ability to work to deadlines with urgency and exceed expectations when needed.
- Strong organizational adaptability and flexibility.
Preferred Background
- Familiarity with state political processes and government relations.
- Experience with statutory research.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
