Job description

Job overview

J D Wetherspoon is hiring bar staff for The Glass House in Norwich. This is an on-site full-time role with a pay rate of £12.81 per hour. The vacancy closes on 20-06-2026. The reference for this role is 657010.

Who this role suits

The company is seeking upbeat, enthusiastic, and passionate people who can bring a positive attitude to work. You do not need previous experience, as training is provided. A calm approach under pressure, willingness to learn, reliability, friendliness, and comfort working with others are all important. This opportunity can suit someone looking for a long-term path or someone interested in extra shifts.

Role summary

Your main responsibility will be to work with the team to serve food and drinks to the required standard while keeping service fast, clean, safe, and customer-focused. The pubs operate from early morning until late at night, so the job includes flexible shifts such as mornings, evenings, weekends, and late finishes.

Key duties

  • Take orders, prepare beverages, and serve drinks accurately at the bar or through the customer app.
  • Deliver food to guests, complete check-backs, and clear plates within the expected time.
  • Greet customers warmly, thank them, and build a friendly rapport.
  • Stay informed about promotions, events, and new product offerings.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness through regular clearing, wiping, and toilet checks.
  • Support other areas of the pub as needed, including glass washing, refilling fridges, and clearing floors and the beer garden.

Pay, benefits, and workplace terms

Benefits include a competitive hourly rate, one free meal and one drink while working, a 20% discount on food, drinks, and hotel accommodation for you and up to three guests when not working, and an extra £1 per hour for work completed between midnight and 5:59am. The role also includes a bonus scheme of up to 19% of pay, paid holiday, a free shares scheme after a qualifying period, and a loyalty reward programme. Both guaranteed-hours contracts and variable-hours contracts are available.

Under-18s may receive a lower rate of pay, in line with national guidance and usually above it. If applications are received in high volume, the vacancy may close sooner than planned.

Growth and development

The employer says many current team leaders and managers began in the kitchen or behind the bar. Training and development support may include structured on-the-job learning, apprenticeships, management academies, cross-training into other departments such as kitchen or hotel, and progression into team-leader, kitchen-shift-leader, or pub-manager roles.

Inclusion

The company states that it offers an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds, preferences, and beliefs are welcome and supported.

Working hours

This post is for 4 hours per week. Saturday availability is flexible, while Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday are not required.
