Job description
Role Overview
This contract role is for PhD-level biologists who can help improve the safety of advanced AI systems. The work focuses on using specialist life-science knowledge to assess how these models respond to niche scientific topics and to make those responses more reliable and safer.
No previous background in AI or machine learning is needed, as full workflow training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Create expert-level prompts on specialized areas of the life sciences.
- Review and label model outputs for scientific correctness, usefulness, and safe handling of sensitive material.
- Follow structured rules to categorize prompts and conversations.
Ideal Background
- A PhD in biology or a closely related life-science discipline, either completed or currently in progress, such as molecular biology, microbiology, virology, genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, synthetic biology, or immunology.
- Strong practical understanding of current laboratory and computational methods in the relevant specialty.
- Excellent scientific reasoning skills and clear written English.
- Good judgment regarding biosecurity and the responsible treatment of dual-use information.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure through research or coursework to biosafety, biosecurity, pathogen biology, or gain-of-function topics.
- Experience evaluating, scoring, or red-teaming technical material.
Schedule and Engagement
The project begins immediately. The expected workload is part-time, typically 15 to 25 hours per week, with flexibility to go up to 40 hours per week.
Compensation
Pay is stated at $65 to $70 per hour.
