Job description

Role overview

This position sits within the food and beverage culinary team at a luxury hotel in Doha, Qatar. The role is focused on assisting with day-to-day kitchen preparation, cooking support, food quality control, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient workstation.

Key duties

  • Get ingredients ready for cooking by portioning, chopping, washing, peeling, weighing, measuring, and storing items correctly.
  • Prepare both hot and cold food items in line with recipes, presentation standards, quality benchmarks, and kitchen checklists.
  • Use kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers safely and correctly.
  • Check food for proper cooking, monitor quality throughout preparation, and confirm temperature levels for food and appliances.
  • Set up the workstation at the start of service and restore it after use.
  • Plate and serve food in the required portions and on the correct service ware.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen spaces, tables, utensils, knives, and equipment.
  • Follow company procedures, health and safety rules, and security requirements at all times.
  • Report hazards, accidents, injuries, and maintenance issues promptly to the supervisor.
  • Complete required safety training and any certifications assigned by the employer.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance and protect confidential or proprietary information.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and contribute to a cooperative work environment.
  • Support colleagues in achieving shared goals and respond constructively to concerns raised by others.
  • Maintain expected quality standards and carry out additional tasks assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent qualification such as G.E.D.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • No prior supervisory experience is needed.
  • No license or certification is required for this role.
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for long periods, including an entire shift if required.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, reach overhead and below the knees, pull, and carry out physical kitchen tasks.
  • Capacity to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.
