Role overview

Downer’s Energy & Industrial division is looking for a Contracts Administrator to handle everyday commercial and contractual responsibilities across major projects. Reporting to the Commercial Director, Energy & Industrial, and with support from the Senior Commercial Manager, this position plays a key part in delivering projects successfully through strong contract management, risk control and stakeholder coordination.

This role can be based in Gladstone or Brisbane. During major outages, you will work full-time on site, and outside of outage periods you will carry out regular site visits. The position involves supporting several project teams and working closely with subcontractors, suppliers, clients and internal stakeholders to help ensure work is delivered efficiently, within budget and to Downer’s standards.

This is an important role that contributes directly to project performance and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage both upstream and downstream contracts, including payment claims, variation tracking and compliance monitoring.
  • Assist project teams with commercial planning, risk controls and dispute handling.
  • Keep project records up to date, including logs for delays, variations and insurance matters, and ensure reports are prepared on time.
  • Work with subcontractors, suppliers and clients to ensure contractual obligations are understood and met.
  • Offer commercial advice to project teams to help improve project results.

What we’re looking for

  • At least 5 years of experience in contract administration or commercial management on capital projects.
  • A solid understanding of contracts, variations, claims and dispute resolution processes.
  • Strong commercial judgement and analytical skills, with the ability to stay effective under pressure.
  • Excellent skills in stakeholder management, negotiation and communication.
  • A proactive, results-driven mindset and the ability to work well across multiple teams.

Work arrangement

This role is based on site and requires full-time on-site attendance during major outage periods, with regular site visits outside those periods. The preferred base location is Gladstone or Brisbane.
