Data Engineer - UK Captive in Pune

About the Role

Our client, a prominent UK-headquartered digital services firm with a global presence, is seeking a motivated Data Engineer to join their Intelligence & Product Organisation in India. This full-time position is based in Pune and focuses on delivering data engineering solutions using Databricks and Snowflake on the Azure platform. You will play a key role in developing data pipelines, transformations, and data models, as well as contributing to BI reporting using Power BI. The role involves close collaboration with senior engineers and stakeholders, adherence to engineering best practices, participation in Agile ceremonies, and ensuring the quality and reliability of data.

You will be instrumental in building, testing, and maintaining data components, working under the guidance of senior team members. Key Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of data projects utilizing Databricks or Snowflake within the Microsoft Azure technology stack.
• Assist in the development of data pipelines, transformations, and foundational data models under supervision.
• Contribute to data engineering, data modeling, and business intelligence/visualization tasks, including Power BI.
• Collaborate with senior team members to understand client requirements and translate them into actionable technical tasks.
• Conduct testing, validation, and documentation for data solutions.
• Participate actively in code reviews, daily stand-ups, and other delivery ceremonies.
• Demonstrate effective communication with internal stakeholders and project teams.
• Engage actively in learning and development programs, including internal academies and certification opportunities.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices, with support from senior colleagues.
• Identify and promptly escalate any issues or risks encountered during project execution.

Skills & Experience

• Possess over 5 years of demonstrated experience in delivering complex technical changes within data, digital, or technology-focused environments.
• Proficient in core technical skills including SQL, Python, Power BI/DAX, Databricks or Snowflake, Natural Language Processing (NLP)/Natural Language Search (NLS), Data Modelling/Data Warehouse Theory, and Azure Fundamentals (at least three of these are essential).
• Exhibit a strong willingness to receive feedback and commit to continuous improvement.
• Contribute positively to team dynamics and foster a collaborative work environment.
• Maintain strong written and spoken English communication abilities.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• A degree in Computer Science, Data Analysis, AI & Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Microsoft Certifications.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Proficiency in Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, YAML, ARM, BICEP, or Terraform.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory.
• Knowledge of Azure Networking/Infrastructure.
• Familiarity with the Power Platform.
• Experience with the MSBI Traditional Stack (SQL, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS).
• Proficiency in Azure Automation/PowerShell.
• Experience with Azure Streaming Analytics/Spark Streaming.
• Knowledge of Azure Functions/C# .NET.
• Background in Data Science.
• Experience with Azure AI Services, including Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, and Cognitive Services.
• Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) / Master Data Services (MDS).
