Role overview
Enova International is hiring a Data Scientist to join its Credit Risk Modeling team in Chicago, Illinois. This position focuses on building, improving, and validating models that support both new customer acquisition and the management of the existing loan portfolio. The work sits at the intersection of growth and risk, with an emphasis on using data to make stronger lending decisions and improve offer generation.
The successful candidate will tackle open-ended analytical problems, translate findings into clear recommendations for leadership, and work closely with cross-functional partners to support implementation. The role requires someone who can organize and interpret data effectively, communicate insights to different teams, and help strengthen a core part of the company’s business.
Key responsibilities
- Build and enhance proprietary models used to evaluate customer credit profiles.
- Partner with the Strategy and Operations team to support and launch new initiatives.
- Create and apply A/B testing methods to measure model and product performance, then use the results to drive improvements.
- Present data-backed insights and recommendations to senior leaders on customer risk and product strategy.
Requirements
- A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in Data Science, Analytics, or a similar area.
- Strong programming ability, including the capacity to build custom tools for analysis and predictive modeling using Python.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases and SQL.
- Solid understanding of applied statistical techniques and machine learning approaches.
- Ability to use AI tools to improve workflow efficiency and delivery speed.
- Strong analytical thinking, independent problem-solving ability, and comfort working in a fast-moving environment.
- Background in financial services, fintech, or a comparable industry is preferred.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this role is $87,000 to $110,000. Final pay will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and assessed level, and may be outside the stated range. This role may also include bonus compensation. Full-time employees are eligible for company benefits.
