Overview
Powerco is seeking a Delivery Planning Project Manager to join its Electricity Delivery Planning team. This role sits at the front end of the project lifecycle, where strong planning can remove risks, improve delivery outcomes, and help complex infrastructure work move forward more smoothly for regional delivery teams.
The position focuses on shaping major projects from concept through to financial approval, with two key aims: adding value through detailed front-end planning before construction begins, and progressing projects until they are ready for delivery. The work includes resolving uncertainty, confirming scopes, coordinating detailed design activity, maintaining accurate reporting, and supporting contractor documentation preparation.
Although the role is based in Whanganui, candidates with the right fit may also be considered for Palmerston North or New Plymouth.
What You'll Do
- Lead early-stage planning for complex infrastructure projects.
- Strengthen project outcomes through front-end loading and careful risk reduction.
- Review and validate project scopes, highlighting gaps or ambiguities.
- Work through complexity and uncertainty to keep projects moving toward delivery readiness.
- Oversee detailed design activity as projects progress through planning stages.
- Produce clear, accurate, and ongoing project reporting.
- Partner with delivery colleagues to prepare and manage contractor documents.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders on a daily basis.
What You Need
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
- Working knowledge of project management methods and tools.
- Background in electricity distribution, utilities, or industrial infrastructure is beneficial.
- Ability to turn a project concept into practical tasks and delivery steps.
- Skill in building realistic schedules and tracking progress against them.
- Experience forecasting costs and monitoring budgets.
- Confidence in identifying, assessing, and managing project risks.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Comfort using technology and digital processes to work efficiently.
- A positive, inclusive approach suited to a team-focused environment.
