Position Summary
The Director of Logistics will strategically and operationally manage all packaged goods transportation within the United States and Canada, including cross-border movements. This leadership role is responsible for guiding regional logistics teams, optimizing freight costs, ensuring superior customer service, and collaborating with various departments to refine sourcing and distribution strategies. The position is based in Rosemont, IL, requiring three days per week on-site.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive North American transportation strategy that balances cost-effectiveness, service quality, and capacity availability.
- Lead initiatives to reduce freight expenditures through effective carrier negotiations, network optimization, and ongoing process improvements.
- Establish, manage, and track transportation budgets, forecasts, and savings objectives.
- Provide strong leadership and direction to the logistics teams in the U.S. and Canada.
- Monitor and manage daily transportation operations, ensuring service level agreements are met and exceptions are handled promptly.
- Guarantee adherence to all relevant U.S., Canadian, and cross-border transportation regulations.
- Oversee transportation Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) using the OTM Transportation Management System.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends, pinpoint root causes of issues, and uncover opportunities for enhancement.
- Prepare and present data-driven insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Sales, and Finance departments.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define optimal sourcing strategies, manage plant-to-customer logistics, and contribute to network design.
- Support transportation planning for new product introductions and distribution network adjustments.
- Manage the entire lifecycle of carrier relationships, including sourcing, contracting, and performance evaluation.
- Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with carriers, brokers, and other logistics service providers.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with carriers to ensure compliance with service and cost agreements.
- Foster the growth and development of transportation leadership team members.
- Promote a workplace culture emphasizing accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Standardize transportation processes and procedures across all regions.
Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in transportation and logistics management.
- Demonstrated success in managing freight operations across the U.S., Canada, and cross-border lanes.
- Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), with OTM experience being highly desirable.
- Proven track record of achieving freight cost reductions and improving performance based on KPIs.
- Experience in leading and developing management-level teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; an MBA is preferred.
- Experience within the packaged goods or consumer products industry.
- Familiarity with customs regulations, trade compliance, and cross-border documentation requirements.
