About The Lucknow Review

The Lucknow Review is a literary magazine affiliated with the Hindustan Society of New York, dedicated to featuring contemporary writing and arts from a global array of contributors. Its publications include poetry, fiction, essays, translations, and visual art, emphasizing high-quality and carefully curated works. The magazine places special importance on works that explore South Asian cultures, histories, and languages, while also welcoming a broad spectrum of international viewpoints.

Being part of The Lucknow Review provides the chance to collaborate with an expanding editorial team devoted to promoting diverse voices worldwide.

Role Overview

The Editorial Reader role is a part-time volunteer position working closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team. This position involves evaluating submissions across multiple genres — poetry, fiction, essays, translations, and visual art — and offering insightful, constructive critiques to inform editorial choices.

Key Duties

  • Carefully reviewing and assessing submitted works.
  • Preparing succinct and thoughtful editorial notes.
  • Engaging in editorial discussions.
  • Assisting in organizing and managing the submissions workflow.

Qualifications

  • Advanced skills in close reading, literary analysis, and critical evaluation of varied literary and artistic content.
  • Clear and concise writing ability for internal editorial feedback and summaries.
  • Knowledge of current literature trends and works.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle submission tracking, decision recording, and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective communicator capable of collaborating with editors, authors, and team members.
  • Preferable prior experience with literary magazines or academic literary research.
  • Preferred educational background: Bachelor's degree completed or in progress in Literature, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, or related disciplines.
