Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is for an electrical project manager to join an engineering business in Kildare, just off the N7. The position comes with a company vehicle and involves site travel throughout Ireland. It is designed as a progression route: you would start by supporting ESB framework projects, work closely with the associate director who currently manages the client relationships, and gradually take ownership of those accounts and your own projects.

The company is an electrical engineering contractor of about 100 people delivering turnkey design, build, and commissioning services for substation and grid connection work across Ireland. It has the scale to handle major grid and renewable projects, while still remaining accessible, with direct contact to the founder and associate directors rather than a layered management structure. The role spans both ESB frameworks and renewables/special projects, including substations, grid connections, and build-outs for renewable developers and data centre clients.

What the role involves

This is a hands-on position rather than a desk-only coordination role. The work can change from day to day and may include procurement, supplier coordination, site problem-solving, or dealing with issues that arise unexpectedly during delivery. The business is seeking someone comfortable operating in a flexible, multi-faceted role rather than someone used to a narrow function in a large utility environment.

  • Support delivery of ESB framework projects, with some exposure to renewables work as well.
  • Handle procurement and manage suppliers for switchgear, transformers, and other long-lead equipment.
  • Oversee subcontracted civil contractors and assist site managers.
  • Compile weekly project information and client progress updates.
  • Maintain delivery momentum and help prevent project slippage.
  • Build client relationships that can gradually transition into your own responsibility.

Skills and experience required

The company is looking for four main things: an electrical engineering background, knowledge of the Irish power and utilities market, willingness to travel, and an adaptable approach to work. Civil engineering backgrounds may be considered, but electrical is preferred because of the nature of the projects. Prior experience with ESB frameworks is particularly valuable.

  • Electrical engineering background preferred; civil engineering may also be considered.
  • Experience in the Irish power and utilities sector.
  • Exposure to ESB frameworks is a strong advantage.
  • Comfortable travelling across Ireland for site work.
  • Open to a varied role with multiple responsibilities.

Package and benefits

  • Company vehicle included with the role.
  • Pension matched up to 4% from day one.
  • 23 days of annual leave, increasing to 25 days with service.
  • 26 weeks of paid maternity leave.
  • 2 weeks of paid paternity leave.
  • 10 paid sick days each year.
  • Access to a virtual GP and a 24/7 nurse line.
  • Death-in-service cover and income protection.
  • Funded training, including specialist courses overseas when required by the work.
  • A culture that supports people who take on more responsibility.

Work location

The office is in Kildare, close to the N7 and around 50 minutes from Dublin city centre. The role is site-based, so regular travel across Ireland is expected alongside office time. The team includes people commuting from places such as Donegal and Waterford, so distance from the office is not necessarily a barrier.

How to proceed

Interested candidates should send an up-to-date CV and a short introductory conversation will be arranged to discuss fit before any further steps.

Additional information

This role offers a clear progression path into greater ownership of client relationships and projects. It is better suited to someone who enjoys variety, works well with responsibility, and is comfortable being involved in both the commercial and technical sides of project delivery.
