Job description

About Airwallex

Airwallex is a unified payments and financial operations platform built for international businesses. Its proprietary infrastructure and software help more than 200,000 companies around the world manage business accounts, payments, spend, treasury, and embedded finance through one connected system.

Founded in Melbourne, the company now has more than 2,200 employees working across 26 offices globally. It is valued at US$8 billion and is supported by major investors such as T. Rowe Price, Visa, Mastercard, Robinhood Ventures, Sequoia, Salesforce Ventures, DST Global, and Lone Pine Capital.

What Drives Success Here

Airwallex looks for builders with founder-style ownership, strong judgment, curiosity, and the ability to move quickly while still making careful decisions. The company values people who collaborate well, take ideas from concept to launch, work end-to-end, and use AI to improve how they build and solve problems.

The Opportunity

The Growth team plays a central role in Airwallex’s expansion strategy, focusing on acquisition, onboarding, and market growth. The team uses data and modern technology to create smooth user experiences that help people discover and adopt Airwallex products.

Work in this space includes improving new-user funnels, refining onboarding flows, building scalable systems for high-traffic pages, creating A/B testing infrastructure, and connecting global marketing platforms. The role offers the chance to influence a critical part of the product journey and contribute directly to the company’s global growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the hiring and people strategy for your organization, including recruiting, onboarding, and developing engineers and engineering managers.
  • Build and grow a high-performing engineering group with clear goals, career pathways, succession planning, and strong performance and compensation processes.
  • Coach engineers regularly through feedback, development planning, and performance management.
  • Help scale the team in a sustainable way through effective hiring and onboarding.
  • Drive execution across functions such as Compliance, Legal, Risk, Operations, Support, and other engineering groups.
  • Share progress, technical insights, and business outcomes with executive leaders and broader stakeholders.
  • Ensure strong coordination with local and global engineering teams, infrastructure teams, and product managers.
  • Provide leadership for a business-critical platform, keeping technical plans, team capacity, and regulatory needs aligned with company goals.

Who You Are

  • You bring 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years leading high-performing small to mid-sized teams.
  • You have a strong record of hiring, onboarding, and growing engineers, including succession planning and career development.
  • You have handled performance review and compensation cycles and helped shape an inclusive, accountable engineering culture.
  • You are comfortable working through ambiguity, making trade-offs, and aligning engineering priorities with business goals and measurable outcomes.
  • You can explain technical ideas clearly to partners in Legal, Risk, Compliance, and executive leadership.
  • You have built API-driven and integration-heavy production systems.

Preferred Background

  • Experience working with Growth or Marketing teams on end-to-end go-to-market operations and product adoption.
  • Ability to identify ways AI can improve acquisition, predict churn, or personalize customer journeys.
  • Experience launching new products or building teams from the ground up and scaling them over time.
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing, customer segmentation, and analytics tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding, and developing engineers.
  • Experience managing performance and compensation processes.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, make sound technical decisions, and align engineering with business goals.
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with API- and integration-heavy systems in production.
