Role overview
GHD is looking for an experienced Environmental Planner to join its Auckland-based planning team, with opportunities also available in Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wellington, or Christchurch. This is an intermediate-level role focused on delivering planning and environmental approval work across New Zealand while contributing to a globally connected team of engineers, scientists, planners, and environmental specialists.
What you’ll do
- Support the development of environmental assessments and planning consent applications for projects across New Zealand.
- Carry out consultation and relationship management with consent authorities, iwi, stakeholders, landowners, members of the public, and other affected parties.
- Assist and coach junior planners by providing practical guidance and support.
- Take ownership of your assigned project tasks and work closely with project stakeholders to help deliver a strong client experience.
- Collaborate with a nationwide planning network, learning from Senior Planners and Technical Directors.
- Develop your career through mentoring, training, and participation in professional bodies and GHD’s global technical communities.
- Contribute to a collaborative and flexible workplace culture that supports work-life balance.
What you need
You should hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least 3 years of experience in environmental planning. Experience with district and regional consenting, especially on infrastructure projects, is preferred. The role also calls for strong written and verbal communication skills, a professional manner, sound judgment, and a flexible approach to problem-solving. You’ll need to be proactive, self-driven, and energetic in your work.
