This senior leadership position oversees the day-to-day and long-range functioning of the technology organization. The role is accountable for aligning infrastructure, systems, development workflows, governance, and service delivery with business priorities while ensuring work is executed efficiently, securely, and at enterprise scale.
The Executive Director of Technology Operations acts as the link between technology strategy and execution, driving operational discipline, digital transformation, governance, and collaboration across functions to support growth and innovation.
Technology operations strategy and execution
You will shape and implement operating strategies that support corporate and technology goals, converting roadmaps into practical plans and measurable results. A key part of the role is improving performance across software engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud operations, and IT service delivery, while putting governance structures in place to guide execution.
Program and portfolio management
The role includes oversight of enterprise technology programs and projects from planning through delivery. You will manage priorities, budgets, resources, and portfolio decisions to maximize business value, while keeping initiatives on schedule, in scope, and within budget. The position also requires building executive reporting and dashboarding to improve visibility into technology performance.
Process improvement and governance
You will define, standardize, and refine operating processes, policies, and procedures for the technology function. This includes applying best practices across SDLC, DevOps, ITSM, Agile, and project management, as well as using automation and workflow improvements to raise efficiency. The role also requires maintaining compliance with internal controls, governance standards, and regulatory obligations.
Infrastructure, cloud, and service operations
This role owns oversight of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, networks, and support services. You will be responsible for service reliability, scalability, and availability, along with monitoring, incident handling, and problem resolution. The position also covers business continuity, disaster recovery, and resilience planning.
Cybersecurity, risk, and compliance
You will work closely with cybersecurity teams to protect systems, applications, and data. The job requires identifying operational technology risks, ensuring compliance with security frameworks, regulations, and governance requirements, and defining escalation and risk-management processes for critical operations.
Data, analytics, and performance management
The role involves setting and tracking KPIs, SLAs, and operational metrics for technology services. You will use data and analytics to improve efficiency, support decisions, and build reporting frameworks for executive leadership, while leading continuous improvement efforts based on business and operational insights.
Cross-functional collaboration and business alignment
You will partner with leaders across product, engineering, IT, finance, HR, and the broader business to ensure technology operations support strategic priorities. The position also requires translating between technical and non-technical teams, coordinating global technology groups, and supporting transformation initiatives that enable business growth.
Leadership and organizational development
This leadership role calls for building and managing strong technology operations teams. You will be expected to strengthen leadership capability, plan succession, develop talent, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and engagement across the function.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
The ideal candidate will bring at least 18 years of experience in technology operations, IT management, engineering operations, or related areas, including 8 or more years in senior leadership roles. Experience leading large technology organizations, digital transformation programs, and enterprise operations is important, along with a strong background in software development operations, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology governance. Experience in multinational or fast-growing technology-driven organizations is preferred.
