Role Overview
This position leads the hotel’s daily accounting operations and supports the Cluster Director of Finance by bringing financial direction, structure, and oversight to the finance function. The role is centered on reporting accuracy, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, audit support, balance-sheet control, and effective cash and working-capital management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities for the property.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, reconciliations, and related reports.
- Support the creation of annual business plans, budgets, forecasts, profit-and-loss statements, and tax-compliance work.
- Help maintain strong internal controls and reduce business risk across departments.
- Assist with hiring, developing, and retaining accounting team members.
- Contribute to a fair, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.
- Ensure reports are completed and delivered within required deadlines.
- Validate the accuracy of profit and loss reporting in line with company procedures.
- Provide timely financial information to supervisors, peers, subordinates, and executive stakeholders.
- Review taxes to confirm they are current, properly accrued, and correctly collected where applicable.
- Support strategic planning by advising on financial and operating issues.
- Monitor department performance against sales, profit, and budget targets, and identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide analytical input during budget reviews to uncover savings and productivity gains.
- Maintain a strong accounting and operational control environment to protect assets and support profitability.
- Reconcile balance-sheet accounts and ensure they are documented and up to date.
- Lead critique meetings, performance reviews, and other people-management activities for the team.
- Coordinate internal, external, and regulatory audits and ensure compliance with operating procedures.
- Complete additional tasks assigned by the Cluster DOF or Assistant Cluster DOF.
Candidate Profile
The employer is looking for someone with hotel accounting experience and strong operational finance capability. Prior exposure as an Assistant Director of Finance or as the Director of Finance for a smaller hotel is especially relevant. A four-year accounting degree or a full/part-qualified accounting credential is acceptable, along with either three years of related experience/training or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
