Job description
About Satisfy Food Rescue
Satisfy Food Rescue has been serving Canterbury for more than a decade, recovering surplus edible food and redistributing it across the Waimakariri and Hurunui districts, as well as Christchurch city. The organisation works alongside local food retailers and 54 community groups to redirect perishable food away from landfill or animal feed and into the hands of people who need it most.
Its food donors include supermarkets, growers, wholesalers, and cafés. The receiving organisations include food banks in the Waimakariri and Hurunui districts, community meal services, schools, and pre-schools. A team of nearly 60 volunteers and 11 staff keep the operation running smoothly.
The organisation’s purpose is simple: every kilogram rescued helps put a meal on someone’s table, and every story shared helps strengthen the connection between the work and the wider community.
About the Role
This fixed-term position runs until 23 December 2026 and offers 17 hours per week while another team member is on leave. It is a varied, practical role that brings together fundraising, storytelling, and digital communications. You will work closely with the General Manager - Development to keep funding activity moving, maintain active and genuine social channels, and nurture strong relationships with funders.
An expanded version of the role may be available for someone with finance and administration experience, increasing the hours to 24 per week at the same hourly rate.
Key Duties
- Create, plan, and publish content for the organisation’s social media channels and website.
- Prepare funding applications and complete required reporting for funders.
- Support relationships with corporate sponsors and donors.
- Develop and send regular email communications.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of fundraising campaigns.
- Improve workflows and use digital tools and CRM systems efficiently.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, accurately, and warmly.
- Grant-writing experience, or a strong interest in developing it.
- Confidence using social media platforms and digital tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage several priorities at once.
- A full, clean driver licence.
Extended Role Option
If you also bring finance and administration experience, the organisation may consider you for a 24-hour-per-week version of the role. Relevant experience includes Xero, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliation, and payroll.
