As a Medical Officer, you'll deliver primary medical care aligned with professional, legislative, and Defence standards. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team focused on maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence personnel. Your role will include assessing personnel's fitness for duty and providing care before and after deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide primary medical care to patients in compliance with standards, legislation, and Defence policies.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to promote Defence members' health and wellbeing.
- Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and support care related to deployment cycles.
- Offer medical technical advice to commanders and health unit leadership.
- Deliver services in outpatient or inpatient settings as required, potentially including ward care.
ADF Health Services and Work Environment
In partnership with Bupa, the ADF Health Services team supports Australian Defence Force personnel at over 45 on-base locations nationwide. The Lavarack Health Centre in Townsville operates within the largest Army base in Australia providing diverse healthcare services to approximately 8,000 members. The centre runs from 07:00 to 16:30 Monday to Friday, with some weekend shifts as needed.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Demonstrated high personal integrity and ethical conduct.
- Current, unconditional, unrestricted Australian Medical Practitioner registration via AHPRA.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM), or Vocational Registration.
- At least 2 years full-time postgraduate general practice experience within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent).
- Active participation in Continuous Professional Development per AHPRA.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification (HLTAID009).
- Must be an Australian citizen to obtain Baseline Security Clearance.
